The Heart For a Cure
Thank you for visitig my page. In 1996, my childhood friend, Scott Moreno, was injured in a snowboarding accident. He suffered an L2 Burst Fracture. A burst fracture is an injury to the spine in which the vertebral body is severly compressed. Neurological injury from a burst fracture ranges from no injury at all, to complete paralysis. Scott's injury was severe, but thankfully, he did not experience paralysis. He endured a hospital stay and rigorous and consistent rehabbing. The Doctor told Scott, the sooner he gets up and gets moving, the better chances of mobility and healing. Scott didn't need to hear that twice, he popped up and got to work. That "Work" didn't come without agony, frustration, pain and some downright awful and dark days. I am giving you the abridged version of this experience. You see, Scott is someone that doesnt want the focus to be on himself and all the details of HIS journey, but rather, use what happened to him as a vehicle to help others. Others that have had even greater injury's and suffered paralysis. Scott deals with pain daily and it drives his desire to find a cure for spinal cord injury. It allows perspective in knowing that there are so many people that have suffered so much more. An opportunity to turn a bad experience into one of value and purpose. When I received the terrifying phone call of Scott's accident, I didn't think twice about hopping on a plane that day to be by his side and help him in any way possible. So, 22 years later, when Scott called and asked me to join him in the Wings For Life Scavenger Hunt to raise money for Spinal Cord Research, I again, didn't have to think twice. If you feel moved to donate to this cause and sponsor our team in our fundraising efforts, I would be so thankful and grateful. If you are able, please, come out on Saturday, November 3 and cheer us on and maybe laugh a little at us, as we make our way through these challenges!
SPINAL CORD INJURY MUST BECOME CURABLE
Imagine living life to the fullest and then one-day your worst nightmare becomes a reality. Those living with a spinal cord injury never planned to live life so drastically different from one day to the next. For this reason, and many more, Wings for Life was founded to fund a cure. Wings for Life is a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation. Wings for Life administrative expenses are generously underwritten by Red Bull; therefore every dollar raised will be donated to world-class scientific research, and clinical trials around the globe, aimed at finding a biological cure for spinal cord injuries.
